Activism Through Art for the Non-Artist
This workshop is geared for people who feel they "can't draw" and find an art supply store overwhelming. You will:
• Look at and try techniques for making attention-getting signs and wearables (t-shirts, armbands, hats, etc.)
• Learn methods to transfer lettering and simple images to multiple surfaces.
• Review best use of color and decoration for strong visual impact.
• Discuss what supplies we used and where to get them.
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to make eye-catching signs and wearables to promote their cause.

Celebrating Diversity & Creativity in Environmental Activism
Providing concrete and specific examples of environmental activists' work builds a foundation for students to learn how
to foster a healthy Earth. It is more powerful for all students when the activists studied represent diversity in culture and
gender. Students gain awareness of the many faces behind saving our planet and the variety of creative avenues activists
take. Join me in this workshop to discuss the ways in which I introduce second grade students to the artistic efforts of
Gambian women recycling plastic in their home village, and engage my students in a recycling effort in their own community.
After taking this workshop, participants will understand the role art can play in engaging students in environmental
activism, and recognize the importance and utility of raising diverse voices in the field of science.

Messaging for Mobilizing
In order to incite social change, citizens need to mobilize. The key to this mobilization is an effective, catchy, and
empowering message. Using lessons learned from nearly 30 years of social movement and
communication research, participants will be able to build messages meant to mobilize their friends and community towards sustainable lives and social change.

My Tower Garden Journey
The Calhoun Garden Club works with three Tower Gardens throughout the year to provide fresh herbs and vegetables
to our kitchen program. This workshop will explore what we do as a club and why the Tower Gardens are so easy and fun
to work with. Come with all your questions!
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to start their own indoor growing program using the Tower Garden
technology.

One Person's Trash Is Another Person's Treasure: How to Conduct a Waste Audit
Poly Prep students will speak about the successes and failures they've experienced in conducting waste audits. They will
outline key factors, as well as ways to gain more traction both prior to and after the audit has been conducted.
After taking this workshop, participants will know the key components and have the confidence to conduct their own
waste audit.

Take Back the Tap
This workshop will be about the Take Back the Tap educational and advocacy campaign. Learn about the negative
impacts of bottled water, and what students can do to reduce bottled water consumption on campus through interesting
discussion and a fun activity.
After taking this workshop, participants will have the knowledge and materials needed to begin an advocacy campaign
to find solutions for water bottle reduction on their school campus.

The Big Splash - Human Impact on the World’s Oceans
As human population has grown and modernized, demands on our oceans have exploded, but much of our negative
impact is far away and easy to overlook. In this session, you will raise awareness of humanity’s negative impact on oceans
and learn about organizations that work to protect and preserve oceans for future generations.
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to identify their own negative impacts and ways they can help their
community protect the ocean.

The Greatest Quest on Earth: Empowering Students as the Leaders of a Regenerative Future
Climate action is an opportunity to transform our planet, not only to adapt and mitigate climate change. This workshop
will focus on how we can communicate about climate change in a way that is hopeful and even exciting, empower
students as the leaders of a regenerative future, and take up "the greatest quest on Earth."
After taking this workshop, participants will understand how our individual and collective action impacts the planet;
how to communicate with others in a way that is informative and inspirational; and have tools for getting involved and
leading climate action.

Why Isn't My School Greener? Institutionalizing Sustainability in Your School
In this session we will learn about concrete strategies to help your school embrace a holistic view of sustainability - pushing the conversation past simply "being green."
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to identify current sustainable actions, define the next steps for
their school, and adopt best practices for a more sustainable school.
